Yesterday was the pine wood derby for the scouts. It was a tri ward event, and there were about 30 boys racing their cars. I'm pleased to announce that the 2nd place winner or "Runner up" for the whole event was Mr. Zachary Anderson. His car raced and won every heat but the final one. He was overjoyed! Each and every heat, we witnessed his thrill and excitement by the humongous smile on his face, and his own congratulatory "I'm pumped" arm signal. He was in the championship, just he and another boy waiting by the sideline watching their cars speed by. The other boy's car took the lead in the final second. Zach was disappointed but showed great sportsmanship. I was so proud of him, he walked of the stage with head hung low, but still feeling like a winner. It shouldn't go without saying that Jeff (with a bit of help from our scout) worked his hiney off making Zach's car. Actually, Zach and Juan's car. Juan is a little boy in our ward who wouldn't of had a car to race unless Jeff made one for him. After the event, Juan was one happy boy who I'm sure will treasure his derby car. Thank you Jeff, for showing us an example of love and willingness to help others in need.
Here is Zachy walking back to us whispering "Yes, I did it."Zachy and the other little boy right before the final race. Zachy watching one of the races. Since he couldn't see the finish line, he waited for the announcement of his name (or sometimes I shouted out to him...you won, buddy)

Yay Zachy! My dad was Scoutmaster for years and years, so I went to my fair share of Pinewood Derby races, and never did even my brothers win! Congrats to the big guy for 'building' such a fast car. What a fun day for Zach.

WAY TO GO ZEEMAN! (jeff) I remember not letting my boys get even near the car during the building process. (not Kosher!)
Like Breya said = the big guy "BUILDING" the car! Everyone knows that the fathers are only supposed to HELP the boys NOT actually build the car . . . but in my day it was solely a dad's contest, they studied, they weighed, they used grahite dust on the sanded smooth wheels, in short they CHEATED! and in spite of all that effort, we never even got close to winning (LIKE ZACHARY) so we are really PROUD of our champion. (both of them)

We heard about this fabulous Pinewood winner while we were away! Easton was proud to watch the whole thing in person. Go Zach!
Congratulations to Zach!! I know lots of boys (and many dads) that really get into Pinewood Derby! A few years ago our ward had an EQ Pinewood Derby--Greg worked really hard on his car! One guy had a double decker bus--really funny to watch it race.
Yeah, Zach! We are so proud of you and your dad. Great job. It is so fun to work so hard and then watch your car race. We are so glad your dad could help you build such a super race car. We love you. Yes, you are always a winner even when you don't take 1st place. We love you! It's the race that's fun!!
Love, Grandma OXOXOXOXO
